Richard Jewell (2019)

When I first saw the trailer for Richard Jewell, I was immediately interested. The trailer gave off a conspiracy type vibe which is a topic I'm very much into. Seeing that John Hamm was in it also made me want to go see it, as I'm a fan of both his roles in Good Omens and Black Mirror

This review for the most part is...spoiler free? As it's based on real life events that most people know about I feel I don't need to hide any details.

Knives Out (2019)

Typically, I don't watch too many mystery movies. As someone who finds it difficult to focus on pretty much anything, I really have to be completely undistracted and in the right mindset to enjoy one. Knives Out interested me because of Toni Collette, who had given an incredible performance in 2018 film Hereditary. So I ended up seeing this one with my friend.

Any spoilers will be blacked out, highlight to read them.

Level 16 (2018)

This was a movie that I found while just browsing my film channels and decided to give it a watch. The description on my TV was vague, about a dystopian boarding school, and sometimes I like those kinds of movies so I decided to give it a watch.

And boy was I blown away.

Joker (2019)

When I first saw the trailer for Joker, my main reaction was one of slight amusement. I thought "yeah I might go see it." and then admittedly forgot about it for a bit. What peaked my interest later was the surrounding "controversy" of how apparently unsavory folk might look up to Joker as a hero. There were even attempts at saying that a shooting might happen at a showing due to the movies content (absolutely ridiculous). So obviously I was thinking "what's so bad about this movie." Seeing memes of Joker on the stairs all over my Twitter feed also added to my wanting to see it as soon as possible.

The House That Jack Built (2018)

With my family having recently switched TV providers, I have quite a few movie channels now. Among them are a few I had been wanting to see.

The House That Jack Built is one of them, as I heard it was a disturbing one.

This review is, for the most part, spoiler-free.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

Fun Fact; I'm a recent Marvel fan and only really got into it after seeing the many Thanos memes. I did see the original Iron Man film in 2008 with my family but that was it.

I saw Spider-Man Far From Home unexpectedly with my friend Hannah, but I definitely enjoyed it, especially with having seen the terrifying Midsommar the day before. It was a much needed enjoyable viewing.

The Possession of Hannah Grace (2018)

This is a movie I saw for free when we got free movie channels for 4th of July.

Released by Sony. Sony has a bit of a reputation for pretty "meh" horror films.

Midsommar (2019)

Directed by Ari Aster

I truly do not know if I can handle another one of this man's films. My close family and friends know that I'm a horror junkie but Mr. Aster's Hereditary of last year managed to disturb me in a way that most horror movies never do. Hereditary has made it's way to one of mu favorite horror movies of all times, along with being my current Autistic obsession (yes, I've made fan art.) Hereditary still does disturb me when I watch it, but it's mainly one particular scene so I can leave the room when it happens or cover my ears.

Midsommar makes Hereditary look like a children's play. I took 2 friends to go see Hereditary, but I never want to see Midsommar ever again. Or at the very least, you'd have to pay me a lot of money. I'd say Midsommar is probably more disturbing than Hereditary, though I still think Hereditary is the better film (more on that later).

Black Mirror Pre-Season 5 Ramblings

This is a very short post and pretty different from my normal ones.

I've been a Black Mirror fan for a little bit now, but I began watching after season 4 started. Despite this, I've watched all the episodes and I think it's a really trippy show.

With season 5 having been released, I decided I might as well share a few theories I had. I have only watched the trailer for “Rachel, Jack, and Ashely too” but didn’t for the others as I wanted to go into those without knowing too much. I'm not sure if the other trailers would have revealed too much, but I was too lazy to ask anyone.

So here’s my theories for Rachel, Jack, and Ashely too

  • My first theory is relates to the “Jack” in the title. From the trailer, I don’t recall seeing anyone named “Jack”. For whatever reason, my brain goes to “Hijack”...perhaps the little Ashley robot gets hacked to start saying not so good things?
  • My second theory revolves around cookies. They’ve been brought up quite a few times in the show so I wouldn’t be surprised if they did it again. What if Ashley too, literally is, Ashely? Perhaps somehow, the cookies that Ashely produces are somehow ok with being put to work? It would definitely be an interesting idea.
  • Or perhaps, there isn’t anything wrong with Ashley too at all. What if the constant “Believe in yourself”s encourage Rachel to attempt something impossible? The Positive vibes trend has always annoyed me and it’d be great to see it turned on it’s head.

As for the other episodes, my guesses are based on the season trailer alone. I feel certain that the one with the guy in the car is Uber/Lyft related. My guess is that he might be obsessed with getting a perfect rating (though this is reminiscent of Nosedive) and goes a little nuts. The other episode...looks to be the most boring one (in my opinion) and and seems….relationship driven? Didn’t see anything indicating the tech was more advanced, but we've also gotten great episodes that had technology similar to today's time (Shut Up and Dance for example).

Either way, I'm excited to watch. I'll probably space them out so I don't binge them all at once.

Replicas (2019)

It's been a while since I've watched a Sci-fi movie in a theater and I was surprised to see that Keanu Reeves was the star of this one. The trailer intrigued me, as cloning and transforming humans into cyborgs is something that interests me quite a bit.

This is a spoiler free review.

Velvet Buzzsaw (2019)

A Netflix film that I decided to watch just because the poster kept catching my interest, Velvet Buzzsaw is quite the interesting film. I went in blind, only knowing the plot based on the Netflix description.

This film is actually part comedy which I wasn't expecting. I also was not expecting Toni Collette to be in this film with a rather bossy and silly role. After being utterly traumatized by her performance in Hereditary (not even kidding) seeing her in such a different tone was odd, but still enjoyable nonetheless.

Happy Death Day 2U

I previously had reviewed the very first Happy Death Day when it came out a while ago, before I ever made this blog. I enjoyed the first film quite a bit, despite it not being really scary or frightening. It had a good storyline and got a few laughs out of me.

When I first saw the trailer for Happy Death Day 2U my initial reaction was "Oh no. Is this real." I thought the first film ended nicely and I was confused on how they would continue on from that. It seemed absurd. And quite frankly, this movie is absurd. But is it bad?

This review does get into detail on the direction this film takes but there are no plot specific spoilers.
